The inaugural broadcast of Menifee Valley Talk Radio hosted through blogtalkradio by Therese Daniels and Chuck Reuter was a great success with over 150 listeners tuning in during the 2 hour broadcast.

There were some technical difficulties regarding audio which I think had to do with browser versions and/or media player defaults. Neither Therese nor Chuck, admittedly have any broadcast experience, and Chuck had a few “Imus” moments, but overall they kept the program moving and did set the stage with their PRO and CON city hood positions.

Julie Johnson, former CEO of Menifee Valley Chamber of Commerce, as well as former CEO of the Menifee Sun City Chamber of Commerce was the surprise special guest.? Julie would not weigh in on the question of city hood, as Julie is not a Menifee resident, but she did encourage every voter, regardless of their position on city hood, to have ready a list of candidates that best represented their voice for the future.

Julie was able to give her opinion on a block of Candidates who she worked with during her years as a Chamber employee and board member. She reminded listeners that a Chamber of Commerce is a special interest group representing business interests in a community. Developers and businesses are always quick to help in the fundraising efforts of a fledgling city, and not for any community interest reasons.

Mike, a caller with some knowledge of the County Health Departments administration of service contracts, was still on the fence over city hood, and felt that Candidates that promised city Police and Fire Protection couldn’t possibly be aware of the costs of such a proposal.

Several candidates were identified by their logins in the chat room and write-in candidate Sue Kristjansson called in to introduce herself.? Darci Castillejos called in and answered a few questions on terms and compensation. Darci believed that a stipend based on population would be the extent of City Council member compensation so didn’t feel that a cap was needed to cover a $600.00 stipend.

Given that election day is less than 2 weeks away, Therese has decided to broadcast at least twice a week until June 3rd, with the next broadcast scheduled for Friday, May 23 at 10 am. We’ll offer links to each of the archived broadcasts for you as well.

Because of some candidate questions that I submitted for the first program, Therese Daniels invited me to guest on her show this morning.? Several candidates had shown an interest in calling in, and so she allowed me to ask questions of candidates directly.

Sue Kristjansson, Fred Twyman, Marc Miller and Scott Mann responded to questions from the various online forums that I monitor, along with questions from menifee247 and redcounty as well as questions from Therese and Chuck, our hosts. Listeners also asked questions through an online CHAT room that exists at blogtalkradio.

Fred Twyman brought up that other candidates may have weighed in also,?had the program been available during different hours.? Therese responded that as a new blogtalkradio program she had limited opportunity for a prime time spot.?? After Monday mornings show however if they have similar number of listeners, then she'll be able to add a prime time slot.

I do believe that the wisdom of the voters of Menifee Valley will come from grassroots community efforts like these to encourage residents to vote, and for the community to continue their participation in websites, forums and blogtalk radio programs like this.
